HABA’s Commitment to Eco-Friendliness
Sustainability Today for our Children Tomorrow Go green with HABA products: we craft our toys and games with care for our environment in mind. Eco-friendly technology and tools are integrated into every step of production of our products. At HABA we use biomass to power our buildings, water-based stains and finishes on all of our wooden toys and recycled scrap wood for our tabletops. Even the servers that host our website and this blog are powered by solar energy. At our New York facilities, out team recycles at the office and we reuse packaging and shipping materials sent from Germany. In our warehouse we shifted our forklift from gasoline to natural gas operated, a better energy resource. In the spring and summer months we have a community garden to support our HABA team with veggies to nourish our families. Toys & Games At HABA, our philosophy is very simple: “Sustainable development meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” HABA wooden blocks and marble track runners are crafted with wood from forests that are managed with ecological care. We’ve been awarded a PEFC Seal, Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification. The PEFC Seal is awarded by an international nonprofit organization that promotes sustainable forest management. By choosing PEFC certified products, buyers can help combat illegal logging and promote healthy forest management. The HABA Supply Chain At every level of our supply chain, from raw materials to manufacturing operations and packaging products, environmental stewardship pervades our process. Our suppliers must meet strict criteria in regard to employee work hours and conditions. Textiles meet the Öko-Tex Standard 100 and are tested for:
- Illegal substances (carcinogens)
- Harmful chemicals (pesticides and allergenic dyes)
