HABA USA Partners with the National Lekotek Center for A Play Day

HABA USA has buddied up with the National Lekotek Center, a non-profit organization that provides resources for children with disabilities and their families, for the HABA Play Day program. HABA USA is donating toys to children from the National Lekotek Center—toys that  encourage creative play and aid development. As part of this HABA Play Day program, HABA USA’s social media team and the dedicated staff at Lekotek, select a child every month to profile. If you’ve been paying attention to HABA USA’s Facebook wall, you’ve meet Charlie and Abbie, both amazing children featured in past months. Lea Culliton, president of HABA, partnered with Lekotek because, “at HABA, we found Lekotek’s philosophy to be truly aligned with our own which is to provide children’s naturally inquisitive minds with toys that will provide hours and hours of lasting enjoyment and value.  Lekotek truly is the best non-profit organization that focuses on play for children with special needs.” Lekotek offers therapeutic play sessions structured to help children learn, develop and thrive in a world that presents them with many unique and complex challenges. Toys and play are used to help the students at Lekotek relate to the world around them. At Lekotek, each play session is customized to the developmental needs of the child including cognitive, physical, sensory and communicative skills.  The Lekotek Family Play Specialist also promotes interaction and bonding within the family, especially between siblings.  Spontaneous exploration is encouraged while the child is gently guided to reach for play goals that both delight and develop abilities in an enabling atmosphere of fun and family.  Self-esteem, self-awareness and social/emotional advancement are often additional outcomes of a successful play session. “HABA supports Lekotek’s mission,” adds Culliton. “Every child deserves to thrive in our ever-changing world. Finding a partner like Lekotek couldn’t be a better fit because toys and play are the vehicles to help children grow up to be healthy and happy adults.” Stay tuned to our Facebook wall and Twitter feed for more updates on our HABA Play Day program.
