Fun Activities for Kids this October
October brings crisp fall days, colorful leaves, and plenty of opportunities for cozy creativity, outdoor adventures, and seasonal fun. This month's activity calendar is filled with simple ideas to encourage imagination, movement, learning, and family connection as fall gets into full swing.

Daily Activity Ideas for Kids
October 1 - Create Dinosaur Habitats
Take a trip back to the time of the dinosaurs by creating a habitat for your favorite prehistoric creatures. Use blocks, toy dinosaurs, natural materials, or anything else you have on hand to make trees, rocks, water, and places for dinosaurs to hide.
October 2 - Set Up a Toy Washing Station
Fill a bin with water and set out sponges, washcloths, and towels. Your child can scrub, rinse, and dry their toys before putting everything back where it belongs. Just be sure to choose toys that can safely get wet, like our Little Friends or Soft Dolls.
October 3 - Make Pumpkin Treats
Pumpkin season is the perfect excuse to spend some time in the kitchen together. Make pumpkin muffins, pumpkin bread, or another favorite fall treat, and let your child help with simple jobs like stirring, scooping, and adding toppings.
October 4 - Try Toy Shadow Tracing
On a sunny day, take a favorite toy outside and look closely at the shadow it makes. Place a piece of paper nearby and trace the outline, then fill it in with crayons or turn the shadow into a silly drawing.
October 5 - Go on a Backyard Treasure Hunt
Head outside with a list of fall treasures to find. Look for things like a red leaf, a pinecone, a smooth rock, or something tiny. For younger children, you can turn the hunt into a simple color or shape game.

October 6 - Build from a Picture
Choose a picture of a house, vehicle, or another object and see if you can build it with blocks. Encourage your child to look closely at the picture and figure out which shapes and pieces might work. There doesn't need to be a perfect match—part of the fun is seeing their ideas take shape.
October 7 - Build Kullerbü Tunnels
Use blocks, cardboard, and other building materials to create tunnels and pathwaysfor Kullerbü cars. Try making a long tunnel, a winding track, or a series of different obstacles, then see how the cars travel through your creation.
October 8 - Have a Family Game Night
Set aside some time for a game everyone can play together. Pull out a favorite board game, card game, or simple family game and make an evening of it with a cozy snack. Younger children can also join in by helping roll dice, move pieces, or take turns.
October 9 - Play a Block Shape-Matching Game
Gather blocks in different shapes and create a simple matching game. Outline the block shapes on a piece of paper in a random order and have your child find and place the block that matches.
October 10 - Make Leaf Rubbing Art
Collect a few fallen leaves and bring them inside for an easy fall art project. Place a leaf underneath a piece of paper and gently rub the side of a crayon over the top to reveal its shape and texture. Experiment with different colors and types of leaves to make a colorful autumn picture.
October 11 - Ride a Scooter
Take advantage of a crisp fall day with a scooter ride outside. Practice going, stopping, and turning, or set up a few simple markers to ride around. If your child is still learning, keep the course short and give them plenty of room to practice.
October 12 - Set Up a Cider Stand
Turn pretend play into a little fall business. Set up a table with cups, a pitcher, and a sign for your very own cider stand. Children can take turns being the customer and the shopkeeper, practice counting pretend money, and serve up "cider" to the family.
October 13 - Go on a Fall Nature Color Hunt
The changing leaves make October a great month for a color hunt. Look around your yard or neighborhood for things that are red, orange, yellow, green, and brown. See how many different shades you can spot along the way.
October 14 - Make Nature Faces
Gather a few fallen leaves, sticks, acorns, pinecones, and other natural materials and arrange them into faces. Try making a happy face, a surprised face, or a very silly one.
October 15 - Build a Mini Pumpkin Tower
See how tall a tower you can make using mini pumpkins, small gourds, or pumpkin-themed toys. Experiment with different arrangements and talk about what makes a tower sturdy. If it topples over, simply start again and try a new design.
October 16 - Have a Puzzle Contest
Bring out a few puzzles and turn puzzle time into a friendly challenge. Children can race against a sibling, parent, or the clock, or everyone can work on their own puzzle at the same time.
October 17 - Create a Nature Sensory Tray
Bring some of the textures of fall indoors with a simple sensory tray. Add things like dry leaves, pinecones, smooth stones, and sticks, then let your child explore, sort, scoop, and compare the different textures. Supervise young children closely and choose materials that are appropriate for their age.
October 18 - Make Autumn Play Dough
Mix up some play dough in warm fall colors and let your child turn it into an autumn scene. Leaves, pumpkins, apples, and other seasonal shapes are fun to make with cookie cutters or tools.

October 19 - Play an Animal Movement Game
Take turns picking an animal and trying to move like that animal. Waddle like a penguin, stomp like an elephant, hop like a frog, or stretch like a cat. Have another player try and guess which animal is being acted out. See how many different animal movements you can come up with!
October 20 - Make Pretend Potions
Set up a little potion station with cups, bowls, spoons, water, and other child-safe materials. Children can mix and name their own magical creations while practicing pouring, stirring, and measuring.
October 21 - Have an Indoor Flashlight Hunt
When the weather keeps you inside, turn off the lights and grab a flashlight. Hide a few toys around the room and give your child clues to help find them. You can make the game easier or harder depending on their age.
October 22 - Go Pumpkin Bowling
Use small pumpkins or pumpkin-shaped toys as bowling balls and set up lightweight cups or bottles as pins. Take turns rolling and count how many pins each person knocks down. Try moving the pins closer or farther away to change the challenge.
October 23 - Create a Family Block Challenge
Choose one thing for the whole family to build, such as a castle, house, bridge, or animal. Everyone gets to build their own unique creation, there's no single right way to complete the challenge...see who can build the fastest, the tallest, or just simply build for fun!
October 24 - Make Seasonal Snacks
Put together a snack that celebrates the flavors and colors of fall. Apple slices, pumpkin muffins, cinnamon toast, or fruit arranged into a leaf shape are all great options. Let your child help with age-appropriate jobs like washing fruit, arranging ingredients, or sprinkling toppings.
October 25 - Create a Nature Mandala
Use fallen leaves, sticks, pinecones, flowers, and other natural materials to make acircular pattern outdoors. Start in the center and work your way outward, repeating colors, shapes, or textures as you go.
October 26 - Dress Up Your Dolls and Little Friends
Give dolls, stuffed animals, and Little Friends their own costumes. Use doll clothes, scarves, fabric scraps, or other safe materials to create different looks. Once everyone is dressed, put on a pretend fashion show or make up a story for the characters.

October 27 - Build a Cardboard Car Tunnel
A cardboard box can become the starting point for a whole new road system. Cut or arrange boxes to make tunnels for your HABA toy cars, mix in a track system like Kullerbu then add blocks, signs, bridges, and parking spaces to expand the course.

October 29 - Build a Spooky Block House
Use blocks to build a Halloween-inspired house with towers, windows, secret doors, or a spooky garden. Add small toys or figures and make up a story about who lives there. It can be spooky, silly, or friendly—the story is up to you.
October 30 - Have a Made-Up Story Time
Choose a few toys, stuffed animals, or household objects and use them as characters in a story. Take turns deciding what happens next and see where the story goes. Some of the best stories come from making them up as you go.
