We are proud to announce HABA's Brandon the Brave/Richard Ritterschlag board game has been nominated for a prestigious Spiel des Jahres award for 2014! Spiel des Jahres (German for Game of the Year) was created in 1978 to recognize quality and excellence in game design. Many in the Board Game industry believe the popularity and importance of Spiel des Jahres is one of reasons the small country of Germany is known worldwide for their wonderful board games.
Since 1989, when the separate award for Children's Games was introduced, many HABA games have been nominated, with 5 HABA games winning the top honor of Children's Spiel des Jahres.
The criteria on which a game is evaluated are:
- game concept (originality, playability, game value)
- rule structure (composition, clearness, comprehensibility)
- layout (box, board, rules),
- design (functionality, workmanship)
